You can find them on the Family Tree DNA website at https://www.familytreedna.com/products/y-dna

Any one of them would confirm your descent from Abner Vance Sr, but the higher numbers of markers would help fit you in among the more detailed branching of his descendants.

Once you get your test results, join the Vance DNA Project at https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/vance/about (press the Join button) and by entering your Family Tree DNA kit number your results will automatically be joined.

In the meantime if you want to see what we know about Abner's line (he's Group 2a), read the blog post here about Group 2 or the Project Summary of Group 2 available at http://vancehistoryonline.blogspot.com/p/dna-project-group-resources.html.

Or let me know of course if you have any questions!Dave Vancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10823699447442510111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8083562408112983652.post-89055077753544358282018-04-02T19:23:19.616-05:002018-04-02T19:23:19.616-05:00Dave, I was adopted but from what I now understand...Dave, I was adopted but from what I now understand I am from the Ryan James > Jesse James > Everett Appie > Appie > Meekin jr > Meekin sr > Richard David > Abner sr > Matthew (Pittsylvania) I was curious about a DNA test but was unsure which one would be nost useful. Do you have one that you would suggest?

Thanks! Both my cousin Linda and I have faced heath issues in the last few years so we haven't kept up the blog like we intended, but I should post the rest of the information I have. Our branch got so scattered and, as is often the case, it seems no one's really excited about relatives they've never met.Christine Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10653906784219413358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8083562408112983652.post-74456868446823182432017-09-02T11:01:52.088-05:002017-09-02T11:01:52.088-05:00Hi! I'm aware of the Vance Turner Connection ...Hi! I'm aware of the Vance Turner Connection blog and I think it's a great resource. Especially since you're gathering many of the old stories that really pass on what people where like and we lose most of that otherwise with every passing generation! Congratulations on a great blog.

We have quite a few Canadian lines researched in the Vance Family Association records. Jamie Vans has also put a lot of Vance lines in his massive database which you can reach from the link in the upper right of our page here (under "Useful links").

There are a lot of old and new pictures of Dirleton Castle on the web via a search but I don't know how many of them are reusable without copyright. If you check the book "Path of a Family, Part 1" under "Books of Interest" (again a link in the upper right of this page), that book has a section on Dirleton with pictures of the castle that are reusable with attibution and the exact status of each picture is given in the last pages of the book.Dave Vancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10823699447442510111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8083562408112983652.post-35393930832413175062017-09-02T09:43:23.338-05:002017-09-02T09:43:23.338-05:00I happened on this site while researching Barnbarr...I happened on this site while researching Barnbarroch House and wonder if you'd like info on the Vance family in Canada? Some of this is posted at the Vance-Turner Connect blog: https:vanceturnerconnection.wordpress.com.

I did the genealogical info there and would gladly share what I have with you, though I don't have the direct connection to the Vances of Barnbarroch. Our ancestor, David Vance (1783-1819) came from Galloway-shire and lived in Wigtownshire.

I'm actually looking for a picture of Dirleton Castle that I can upload for a short fiction story I want to write.
